Research Overview
Dr. Altinbas is a board-certified medical doctor in the field of internal medicine and an Assistant Professor at UConn Health. As an international medical graduate, he initially completed his Internal Medicine residency, followed by Gastroenterology fellowship in Türkiye. After working as a post-doc researcher in experimental liver research laboratories at Essen University in Germany and Massachusetts General Hospital in the United States, he decided to pursue his career in both clinical and translational sciences and moved to the United States. He graduated from Internal Medicine residency at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut, and joined UConn Health as a faculty member in 2023.
In addition to his clinical interest in the management of chronic metabolic dysfunction-associated diseases (MDAD) in the primary care settings, he focused on developing non-invasive biomarkers to predict the underlying silent MDAD related liver diseases. Mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals as well as serving to esteemed medical journals as a peer-reviewer is his deep passion.
