Wendy Ulaszek, PhD
Associate Research Professor, Social Work (Affiliate)
As an Associate Research Professor at the UConn School of Social Work, and Principal Investigator (PI) at the Research Division (RD) of the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, I have gained extensive experience conducting evaluations involving substance abuse treatment and mental health services. For example, I was centrally involved in three NIDA-funded projects: one implementation of Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Treatment in a large multi-site methadone clinic; another concerning assessment of treatment needs among drug-involved prisoners; and a third involving increased HIV testing among jail inmates. For the latter project, I became a certified NIATx coach, versed in the evidence based rapid-cycle method of implementing organizational change. Currently, I am the evaluator for a HRSA-funded 3-year grant to train social work students in integrated care programs for transition-age youths, as well as the evaluator for the Mental Health Waiver, working to transition individuals with mental illness into the community with supportive services. Over the past 4 years, I have collaborated with the CT Department of Corrections as we examine best practices for implementing sustainable change for inmates in the area of smoking relapse prevention and the continuity of health care. In the past, I have also applied my knowledge and experience on systems change for CT’s Co-occurring State Incentive Grant (COSIG). My evaluations have all involved inter-agency coordination and an iterative communication process with all key stakeholders to inform program development through examination of data and review of project goals, which will be key to all projects that I work on as an InCHIP Affiliate.
