Program Specialist - Educational Outreach

Cooperative Extension System

Research Interests

I am a Program Specialist for UConn Extension focused on communications for Extension, and formal and informal reporting. I work with Extension teams on farm to community, Bug Week, GMOs and trails. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Science in Agricultural Education and Communication from the University of Florida.

My foundation as an Extension staff member is built on the knowledge I gained of various segments of agriculture while at Farm Bureau, and my personal knowledge of the dairy and equine industries. The majority of my work with UConn Extension has focused on agricultural communications. My research interests are centered on agriculture, and previous work was completed with local foods and dairy nutrition.

My professional goals are to continue to serve as a communication conduit for Connecticut agriculture while enhancing the knowledge of producers and organizations in our state to better share their own stories. Through communication and outreach, agriculture can grow and thrive in challenging economic and geographic situations.

Communication, especially through social media, has become a vital component to the way everyone does business. Agriculture faces many challenges from urban sprawl, input costs, and the weather, to name a few. But we also have opportunities to educate the public, increase awareness and help our industry thrive.
