Research Overview

I am interested in parental influences on child eating behaviors, dietary intake, and child weight status, with a special interest in low-income fathers. In the past I have conducted qualitative interviews with low-income mothers regarding their perceptions of obesity prevention messages and examined dyadic influences on child dietary intake and weight status. Currently we are delivering an obesity prevention program to 2 Head Start classrooms in Connecticut in addition to the 3 classrooms we delivered it to during the Spring semester. In the future, I would like to work more with low-income fathers to understand how they influence their child and develop an effective childhood obesity prevention program just for fathers.

I completed my Bachelor’s degree at Bradley University in Peoria, IL in Foods, Nutrition, and Dietetics. I completed my dietetic internship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and passed the RD exam. I completed my Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences at Eastern Illinois University.
