Research Overview
Over the past decade, Dr. Michael Stein, Professor of Medicine & Community Health at Brown University, and Director of General Medical Research at Butler Hospital, has been developing brief interventions for substance users and testing them in more than ten NIH-sponsored randomized clinical trials. His program of research has combined behavioral and pharmacological interventions to address nicotine, alcohol and drug-using populations. In his recent work, he has developed and evaluated interventions that also have HIV/STI prevention effects, with a recent focus on sexual risk-taking.
