I’m currently working with a research team of other graduate students and registered dietitians including Valerie Duffy, Tina Dugdale, Donna Zigmont, Rachel Hildrey, and Haley Gershmann to develop two new social media pages, Facebook and Instagram, that will represent UConn’s SNAP-Ed nutrition team and provide nutrition and physical activity resources for SNAP-eligibles and community members across Connecticut. Our goal is to share fact-based food and nutrition information that clients and community members are interested in and will benefit from. My personal research focus is on the impacts of family meals and cooking at home for adolescents’ mental and physical health. My research has a concentration on examining the SNAP-Ed population, specifically adolescents. I’ve aligned my research interests with the project because I am examining the effectiveness of using social media to to promote family meals and cooking at home in the COVID-19 era.
