Research Overview

My primary research focus is on identifying novel ways to improve the outcomes of serious infections such as pneumonia and acute exacerbations of COPD, and I have successfully conducted large database analyses, prospective cohort studies, and interventional trials. As part of my research on the safety/benefit of medications (e.g., antibiotics and statins) for those with pneumonia I have developed strengths in the use of claims and electronic medical record data for research as well as the application of advanced statistical techniques including propensity scores, multilevel modeling, and instrumental variables.
