UConn Health: Medicine
I am interested in developing a research project on diabetes, hypertension, and/or obesity in Quito, Ecuador in collaboration with the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) and the local Ministry of Health. These areas of interest were selected by USFQ and the ministry of health in the Quito area. We would like to start with a needs assessment that would hopefully lead to a larger project with external funding. We plan to use 2 UConn medical students per summer, USFQ students and existing local health team structures to carry out this research. We hope it leads to 1.) meaningful improvement in the diagnosis and delivery of care for the health system in Quito, Ecuador, 2.) training in scholarly activity for our medical students as well as cross-cultural and medical Spanish learning, and 3.) academic publications for myself and collaborators.
