Research Overview

I am a cultural anthropologist with with an interests in two major fields 1) medical anthropology with a focus on the chronic disease health disparities., and education anthropology with a specialization in STEM education research. My primary research interest incorporates medical anthropological and epidemiological approaches to the study of chronic disease health disparities, specifically type 2 diabetes risk and management among Latino and Caribbean immigrants as well as other ethnic minorities. I focus on ill representation and its relationship with self-management of chronic diseases, particularly among individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I am also interested in the use of complementary and alternative medicines by individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
