Research Overview

Alexandra’s research focuses on the uses and effects of new communication technology, as well as traditional forms of mass communication. Her specific areas of interest include health communication and marketing, online journalism, social media, mobile, digital advertising, and issues of race and ethnicity in communication. Alexandra also has 16 years of industry experience in marketing, advertising, PR, and product development for media and technology companies such as IBM, The Boston Globe/New York Times Co., Billboard Magazine, Harvard Business School Publishing and AOL/Time Warner, among others.

Her current health-related projects include an experimental study on the effects of SMS text messaging and smart-phone apps in health communication campaigns, and a survey on inter-hospital communication in Haiti.
