Research Overview

I have an interest in patient and parent pain-related beliefs, treatment expectations and adherence, and the development of targeted interventions to improve outcomes (particularly reducing functional disability and increasing physical activity) for youth with chronic pain conditions. Since relocating to CCMC/HH/IOL/UConn SOM in 10/2012, I have established a clinical-research infrastructure within the outpatient pediatric chronic pain clinic housed in the Division of Pain & Palliative Medicine at CCMC. My most recent research efforts are focused on strategies to enhance engagement with/adherence to treatment recommendations, with a particular focus on increasing patient/family engagement in physical activity recommendations. I am in the process of finalizing publications based on related work pursued via an NICHD-funded grant (R03 HD054596) focused on pediatric chronic pain management and mechanisms of treatment change while developing new local research collaborations and opportunities to advance this program of research. In addition, I actively collaborate in multicenter research and clinical trials for youth with chronic pain syndromes including juvenile fibromyalgia (JFM) and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS).
