Research Overview

My major research interests include three aspects (1) big data analytics; (2) biomedical informatics; (3) social media analysis. I have five-year experience on analysis with patient electronic health records. The related projects include predictive modeling (e.g., onset risk of chronic disease, hospital readmission, treatment efficacy, etc.) with various data sources (e.g., clinical EHR, genetic data, pharma R&D data, patient survey data, etc.); electronic phenotyping; risk stratification; patient similarity analysis; disease progression modeling and clinical pathway analysis. I worked on projects on social media analytics such as influence analysis, cascade modeling, recommendation and event detection. I want to keep working on those projects with InCHIP. Especially (1) working with the domain experts in InCHIP on obesity/cancer research with big data analytics techniques, such as phenotyping, predictive modeling and personalized treatment recommendation; (2) working with the eHealth people in InCHIP to construct a state-of-the-art consumer health vocabulary from online social media, which will serve as the basis for useful information extraction and later on we can use it to support later on tasks like “social media, web-based interventions, sensors, and other new technologies to assess and modify health behavior” as stated in the mission of the eHealth RIP.
